California CARB Compliance for Trucks

California's Air Resources Board enforces the strictest emissions rules in the U.S. All heavy-duty diesel trucks operating in California — including out-of-state carriers — must comply with CARB rules or face significant fines.

Current Requirements

All model year 2010+ engines are grandfathered. Older engines are effectively barred from California operation. Advanced Clean Fleets rule phases in zero-emission requirements 2024–2042.

Drayage Rule

Only 2014+ engines can enter California ports (POLA, POLB, Oakland). ZE mandate expands aggressively through 2035.

CARB Registration

All out-of-state carriers operating California-based drayage or in-state moves must register with CARB's TRUCRS database. Enforcement is data-driven — non-registration triggers automatic inspection.

Fines

Per-day violations of $1,000+ plus vehicle out-of-service holds. Repeat non-compliance can bar carriers from California registration and operating authority.
