I-80 is the longest transcontinental freight corridor in the U.S., running from San Francisco to Teaneck, NJ. It carries produce east, manufactured goods west, and heavy intermodal volume across Wyoming and Nebraska.
Weigh Stations and Ports of Entry
Major scale locations: Truckee CA, Mystic Canyon NV, Echo UT, Fort Bridger WY, Big Springs NE, Waverly IA, Peru IL, Youngstown OH. Wyoming and Nebraska run PrePass and Drivewyze; enroll to reduce stops.
Weather and Closures
Donner Pass (CA) and Elk Mountain / Arlington summit (WY) are the two most-closed sections in the country. Wyoming DOT closes I-80 for high-wind and blowover events regularly Nov–Apr; check wyoroad.info before departure. Chain-up areas are enforced in CA and NV.
Truck Parking Hotspots
Wendover NV, Little America WY, Cheyenne WY, North Platte NE, Walcott IA (world's largest), Toledo OH. Overnight parking gets tight after 6pm — plan HOS to arrive early.
Tolls
I-80 is toll-free across the western states. Tolls begin in Indiana (ITR), Ohio (OTC), and continue into Pennsylvania (PTC) and New Jersey (NJTP). Use Bestpass or PrePass Plus for consolidated billing.
