I-5 Freight Corridor Guide
I-5 is the West Coast's primary freight spine, from the Mexican border at San Ysidro to the Canadian border at Blaine, WA. Produce, forest products, and Port of LA/Long Beach containers dominate.
CARB and Emissions
California enforces the Advanced Clean Fleets rule and CARB idle limits statewide. Older tractors (pre-2010) face restrictions in drayage. Wildfire smoke closures also apply.
Grapevine and Siskiyou
The Tejon Pass ("Grapevine") north of LA and the Siskiyou Summit at the OR/CA line are the two closure-prone mountain grades. Chain-up is common Nov–Apr.
Ports of Entry
Cottonwood CA (northbound), Woodburn OR, Ridgefield WA. Oregon requires PUC weight-mile permits — enroll before entering.
Parking
Bakersfield, Coalinga, Redding, Central Point OR, Eugene, Kelso WA. LA basin overnight parking is extremely scarce.
