MC Number (Motor Carrier Number)
An FMCSA-issued operating authority number for carriers that haul regulated commodities for hire across state lines.
The Motor Carrier (MC) number authorizes a carrier or broker to operate in interstate commerce. It is separate from the DOT number, which is required for any qualifying CMV. Brokers must hold an MC number and a $75,000 BMC-84 surety bond.
Example
MC-987654 authorizes a broker to arrange interstate freight; verified on FMCSA SAFER alongside their $75,000 surety bond.
