Drayage
Short-haul trucking of containers between ports, rail yards, and nearby warehouses.
Drayage moves intermodal containers (typically 20' or 40' ISO boxes) the first or last leg of a longer journey. Most drayage runs are under 50 miles and priced as a flat rate plus accessorials (chassis, per-diem, demurrage). Major drayage hubs include LA/Long Beach, Savannah, and New York/New Jersey.
Example
A 40-foot container is drayed 28 miles from the Port of Long Beach to a Carson, CA distribution center for $385 plus chassis fee.
