Load Assignment Workflow

A repeatable load-assignment workflow reduces dispatcher errors, driver frustration, and missed pickups. This is the step-by-step process fleets should standardize.

Pre-Assignment Verification

Confirm the customer/broker is credit-approved, verify pickup and delivery appointment windows, verify HOS and location of the intended driver, and verify equipment availability (trailer type, chassis if drayage, hazmat endorsement).

Assignment Communication

Send load details in a single message: pickup address + appointment, delivery address + appointment, commodity, weight, rate, special instructions. Verbal-only assignment is the #1 source of miscommunication.

Driver Confirmation

Require explicit driver acknowledgment before considering the load assigned. "Received" is not "accepted."

Automation

Use Dispatchtool automation rules to auto-notify drivers, auto-log the assignment, and auto-post ETA to the broker.
