Truck Driving in Atlanta
Atlanta is the Southeast's largest freight distribution hub, home to major Amazon, Home Depot, and UPS operations. I-285 ("The Perimeter") is the trucker's primary bypass — but often the worst congestion.
Perimeter Truck Restrictions
Trucks over 6 tons must use I-285 to bypass central Atlanta except for local delivery. Violations carry fines up to $1,000.
Peach Pass Tolls
I-75 South Metro Express Lanes and I-85 Express Lanes are passenger-only. General-purpose lanes are toll-free for trucks.
Distribution Centers
McDonough, Locust Grove, Fairburn (Amazon), Union City, Austell — all major DC clusters. Appointment scheduling is strict.
Parking
Cartersville, Commerce, McDonough, Cordele. Inside I-285 parking is scarce and enforced.
