What are the HOS rules for truck drivers?
11-Hour Driving Limit: May drive max 11 hrs after 10 consecutive hrs off duty. 14-Hour Limit: Cannot drive beyond 14th hour after coming on duty. 30-Min Break: Required after 8 cumulative hrs of driving. 60/70-Hour Limit: Cannot drive after 60/70 hrs on duty in 7/8 consecutive days.
What is the 34-hour restart rule?
Drivers can restart their 60/70-hour clock by taking 34 consecutive hours off duty. This must include two periods from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM. The restart is optional but allows drivers to reset their weekly hours.
Are there HOS exceptions?
Yes. Short-haul exception (100/150 air-mile radius), adverse driving conditions (up to 2 extra driving hrs), and the 16-hour exception (once per 7/8 day period). Agricultural carriers and certain utility vehicles have additional exemptions.
What happens if you violate HOS rules?
