Trip Planning Checklist for Drivers

Every dispatched load should get a 10-minute trip plan before departure. This checklist prevents most avoidable problems: HOS violations, low bridges, missed appointments.

Route Verification

Truck-safe routing verified (no parkways, no low bridges, hazmat-legal if applicable). Fuel plan matched to route and network cards.

HOS Verification

Current cycle hours, current drive hours, planned sleeper split. Verify you can legally complete the run.

Appointments and Contacts

Pickup and delivery appointment times confirmed. Shipper/consignee contact numbers on hand. Broker after-hours number logged.

Equipment Check

DVIR complete. Fluids, tires, lights, brakes verified. Load properly secured with correct chains/straps/dunnage.
